Located immediately next to the National Theatre, Legion Bridge from the turn of the 20th century is one of Prague’s most distinctive bridges. It connects Staré Město with Malá Strana via Střelecký ostrov island. Built between 1898 and 1901 to designs by Antonín Balšánek, Jiří Soukup and Josef Janů, it replaced the older Emperor Franz I Chain Bridge. The nine-arch bridge is notable for its blend of Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau design, its four toll towers and the staircase leading down to Střelecký ostrov island.
