The NAVALIS St. John’s Festival will take place for the nineteenth time in modern history in 2027, once again transforming the area around Charles Bridge into the setting for a unique Baroque water festival. The festival commemorates the legacy of St. John of Nepomuk, the most famous Czech saint, a native of Prague, and the patron saint of all those connected to the water. Visitors can look forward to a festive procession, a parade of historic boats, and a spectacular concert on the Vltava River. NAVALIS continues a tradition dating back to the 17th century and is now one of the most significant cultural and spiritual events of the Prague spring, attracting pilgrims and visitors from around the world every year. During the Baroque period, this festival was one of the largest and most spectacular celebrations. Pilgrims from all corners of the country gathered to honor the memory of St. John of Nepomuk, but also to listen to music performed on the surface of the Vltava River and watch a fire show. There were many attractions to see. The tradition of Baroque celebrations was revived in 2009 with the renewal of the St. John’s Day celebrations. The celebrations have a fixed program every year — a solemn mass in the Cathedral of St. Vitus, Wenceslas, and Adalbert, a procession from the cathedral across Charles Bridge to Křižovnické Square, and a Baroque concert on the water.
