Salabka Vineyard

Covering an area of 4.5 ha, it is the largest not only in Troja, but also in the whole of Prague. By the Fata Morgana greenhouse, overlooking the zoo and the city skyline, fragrant with roses and lavender, this winery inspired by France has its own unique charm. Named after its former owner Jan Kašpar Salab, its origins date back to the Rudolphine era, and nowadays it once again has the air of a vineyard estate. With its Michelin-starred designer restaurant, apartments, a stylish stone cellar and a viewing gazebo, it is a truly unique wine complex in the capital. There was a vineyard on the south-west slope back the 13th century, and today the 70-year-old Riesling is a wonderful wine. The state-of-the-art cellar produces a variety of wines, many of which have won awards in prestigious competitions, in stainless steel tanks and in barrels. The vineyard also has its own distillery.

The south-western slope on the right bank of the Vltava used to be part of a vast tract of vineyards. Proof of the fact that vines have been cultivated here for almost 800 years can be seen in documents stored in the archives of St. George’s Convent at Prague Castle. The farmstead there, now a listed cultural heritage site, dates back to the 16th century. The vineyard acquired its present name from Jan Kašpar Salab, listed as the owner in 1769. The Prague Burgraviate was another owner over the course of the years, and wine from the local vineyards went to the royal court. Salabka is now the largest vineyard in Prague.
