Židovské muzeum v Praze – Galerie Artschul

The gallery is currently undergoing an extensive renovation that will transform it into a modern space combining the functions of an art gallery and an educational center. Reflecting this new concept and the site's historical context, the venue will be given a new name: ARTSCHUL. The name refers to the oldest synagogue of Prague's Jewish Town, known as the Altschul ("Old School"), which stood on the site of the present-day building block from the early 13th century until 1686. The existence of this synagogue is also preserved in the name of the street where the Jewish Museum complex is located: U Staré školy ("At the Old School"), formerly known as Altschulgasse in German and Altšůlgas in Yiddish.
