It was built of rubble masonry, which was exposed when the exterior plaster was removed during restoration work in the early twentieth century. Chapels were added on either side of the church in the seventeenth century. A late Gothic porch stands at the entrance to the nave. The church was originally surrounded by a graveyard, whose existence is recalled by the tombstones set into the floor. Together, they form the largest collection of funerary monuments in New Town. A square tower with an onion dome is attached to one side of the church. The building underwent extensive renovation in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including reconstruction of the roof. The church has a nave and two aisles, with ribbed vaulting supported by piers remodelled in the Baroque style. The main altar is adorned with a painting by J. J. Heinsch depicting the church’s patron saints, the royal couple, St Henry and St Cunigunde. St Henry is shown kneeling as an intercessor and protector of Prague during the Swedish siege, while St Cunigunde prepares to walk over a red-hot ploughshare to prove her innocence before God after being accused of adultery. The painted decoration includes works by Karel Škréta, Václav Vavřinec Reiner and Siard Nosecký. The sculptures are by Jan Jiří Bendl and Richard Prachner, while the stained-glass windows were created by František Sequens. Statues of St John of Nepomuk and St Jude Thaddeus stand in front of the church. St Henry — Emperor Henry II (973—1024), was King of the Romans and Holy Roman Emperor. Canonised in 1146, he is the patron saint of Bamberg and Basel. St Cunigunde, the wife of Henry II, was canonised in 1200. She is the patron saint of pregnant women, children and the sick.
