geocaching at the old town hall

share

At the Old Town Hall, you can explore history while enjoying the popular tourist activity of geocaching—a global adventure that combines modern technology with exploring nature and cities. Geocaching originated in the U.S. on 1 May 2000, after then-President Bill Clinton had the artificial deviation added to GPS signal removed, thereby significantly improving navigation accuracy for civilian users. While in June 2005 there were over 171,000 caches registered in 215 countries worldwide (including approximately 700 in the Czech Republic), by early 2024 there were already around 62,500 in the Czech Republic alone—and since 2018, one of them has been hidden at the Old Town Hall. A reward awaits those lucky enough to find the cache.

how to start geocaching

To get started with geocaching, you first need to register and create a player profile in the Geocaching app. Cache seekers then use a map and various clues to guide them to the cache’s location. For some caches, it is also necessary to complete various tasks or solve puzzles to uncover their exact location. An important rule of the game is not to reveal clues or the cache’s location to other players.

Every month, ten coupons for a 50% discount on admission to the Old Town Hall tower are placed in the cache. The tower offers an impressive view of the historic city centre. The coupons are not placed in the cache on any specific day of the month but randomly, to preserve the surprise when opening the cache. Each finder may take a maximum of two coupons at a time. Enjoy Prague from a unique perspective!

where to find the cache

The cache is located at the Old Town Hall Tourist Information Centre, where you can ask for it. It is one of the highest-rated and most acclaimed caches in the Czech Republic.
