Dancing House Gallery

The exhibition “The Dancing House — The Story of an Iconic Building” was created to mark the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Dancing House (June 20, 1996) and presents the history of the building, its architecture and lesser-known moments of its creation. It will offer previously unpublished archival materials, newly discovered photographs from the building and extensive photo documentation of the changes in the building over the thirty years of its existence. The exhibition is held under the auspices of Vision 97 Dagmar and Václav Havel.

The exhibition also maps the story of the place on the corner of Jiráskova Square and Rašínova nábřeží: it includes historical photographs from as far back as 1860 and unique videos. One of the greatest attractions is the extraordinary accessibility of the technical spaces of the Dancing House, including a view of the courtyard – places that ordinary visitors cannot reach.

The exhibition was created in collaboration with the prestigious Frank O. Gehry Foundation and also focuses on the architects of the building themselves. Visitors will see personal items and awards of Vlado Milunić and Václav Havel, original construction documentation and period prints mapping the creation of the building. An exceptional exhibit is the model of the Dancing House by Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunić, supplemented by a new detailed model of the house in 1:18 scale over two meters high and a fold-out and unrealized model of the building. In addition, original glass tables by architect Eva Jiřičná, original doors, lighting and office furniture from the nineties, or lenticular “changelings”.

The tour also includes 3D visualizations on large touch screens, digital presentations on iPads and an accompanying program including commented tours.
