Foreign words, which generally deter the general public from reading artistic and academic texts, should not be a tool for pseudo-intellectual posturing, but an indispensable aid in describing phenomena that lie beyond the realm of everyday life. Art is precisely such a phenomenon in our lives, and therefore a basic vocabulary alone is not sufficient to explain what is taking place, for example, in Ivan Pinkava’s photographs. Provided that certain terms – such as those from the poststructuralist lexicon – are not merely used and repeated ad nauseam as a fashionable affectation, the search for the right expression to describe complex relationships within an artistic composition can lead us on an adventurous journey through time and space, a journey of intellectual discovery. Ivan Pinkava’s photography exhibition also invites us on such a journey, for in our endeavour to penetrate beyond the surface layer of his human figures, accumulated materials or atypical piles of objects, we transcend the categories of simple descriptions of beauty. date and time Mon—Sun 11:00—19:00
