Prague — various places

The Festival du Film Français (French Film Festival), organised by the French Institute in Prague, is the largest French cultural event in the Czech Republic. Its 29th edition will take place from 19 to 25 November 2026, offering a representative selection of contemporary French cinema across five Prague cinemas. The programme features fourteen preview screenings, most of which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, alongside acclaimed works by leading French filmmakers and opportunities to revisit cinematic classics. The festival will pay tribute to actress Nathalie Baye and showcase the work of two prominent figures of the French New Wave, Agnès Varda and Claude Chabrol.

Audiences can look forward to the festival opening gala with a Comédie-Française comedy, exclusive preview screenings of the new film adaptation of Les Misérables and François Ozon’s adaptation of Albert Camus’ The Stranger, as well as a selection of films from this year’s Cannes competition. The programme will also include the historical film diptych De Gaulle, the traditional competitive section Czech Critics’ Choice, a Short Film Night, and tributes to distinguished figures of French cinema.

All films will be screened in their original language version with Czech subtitles or with Czech dubbing.

Each year, the French Film Festival welcomes renowned guests who come to present their work to Czech audiences. Previous visitors to Prague have included director Jacques Doillon, actress Catherine Frot, director Martin Provost, filmmakers Nicole Garcia, Anne Fontaine, and Lou Jeunet, directors François Ozon, Benoît Jacquot, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Claude Miller, and Claude Zidi, actress Judith Godrèche, and actors Romain Duris and Tahar Rahim.
