Every September, European Heritage Days open the doors of the most interesting monuments, buildings, sites, and spaces to the general public, including those that are otherwise partially or completely inaccessible. In 2026, the festival will once again take place throughout the month at various locations across the Czech Republic. As part of the EHD, a wide variety of accompanying events are organized — lectures, concerts, city festivals, as well as contests and other cultural programs. Traditionally, during this September event, the Prague 1 City District also opens up interesting sites to the public, with different ones each year. Most monuments can be visited free of charge on selected days; only a few require a small admission fee. At sites that are normally open to the public and charge an admission fee, a special program is usually offered on these days. The national opening ceremony will take place in Chrudim. In the Czech Republic, European Heritage Days have been held regularly since 1991. Since 1998, the main organizer has been the Association of Historic Towns of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia, which always organizes the national opening ceremony in cooperation with one of its member cities.
