The Prague Philharmonia Chamber Series will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of Ludwig van Beethoven with a concert dedicated to the pinnacle of his chamber music output. The programme, titled Beethoven II, offers a rare opportunity to hear all five of Beethoven’s sonatas for cello and piano performed in a single evening. In the atmospheric Baroque refectory of the Profesní dům, cellist Lukáš Pospíšil will join pianist Filip Martinka for this exceptional musical journey. Beethoven’s sonatas, which fundamentally transformed the role of the cello in chamber music and established it as a fully fledged solo instrument, will guide listeners from the composer’s early works to his late masterpieces, rich in depth, originality and emotional power.
