Baroque Soirées — Il divino Sassone

Church of Sts Simon and Jude

The third concert in the Baroque Evenings series will offer a unique insight into the remarkable fusion of 18th-century opera and church music in the works of Johann Adolf Hasse. This internationally renowned composer masterfully blended German musical tradition with the Italian operatic style, a development to which his wife, the celebrated soprano Faustina Bordoni, also contributed. The program will feature rare contrafacts — originally opera arias set to Latin texts for liturgical use — preserved in the collections of St. Vitus Cathedral, which will be performed in a modern premiere. Performed by the Collegium Marianum ensemble and soprano Pavla Radostová, the music that once resounded within the halls of Prague Castle will come to life, complemented by Hasse’s opera and oratorio arias as well as his virtuoso Flute Concerto in B minor.
