The third concert in the Baroque Evenings series will offer a unique insight into the remarkable fusion of 18th-century opera and church music in the works of Johann Adolf Hasse. This internationally renowned composer masterfully blended German musical tradition with the Italian operatic style, a development to which his wife, the celebrated soprano Faustina Bordoni, also contributed. The program will feature rare contrafacts — originally opera arias set to Latin texts for liturgical use — preserved in the collections of St. Vitus Cathedral, which will be performed in a modern premiere.
