None of the steps to promote sustainable tourism that you encounter during your visit to Prague are random, isolated or impulsive. From 2020 onwards, Prague has been guided by a comprehensive Incoming Tourism Concept and its Implementation Plan, which coordinates the progress of all city components and their specific strategies. Sustainable tourism is thus a stable, internally interconnected structure standing on the pillars of promoting cultivated tourism and consistent care for the quality of life of Prague’s citizens. Thank you for being a part of it.

returnable cups

If you attend one of the events on the Prague embankments or at the Holešovice Exhibition Centre, when buying a drink you will receive it in a returnable cup. T By participating in these events and accepting returnable cups, you too will help to make tourism more sustainable.

tree planting

After a day of sightseeing in the historic centre or visiting trendy businesses in revitalised neighbourhoods, you may long for a walk in a wooded park or a picnic under the trees. In addition to a number of environmental organisations, the city’s management has also long been ensuring that there are still enough such opportunities. Half a million trees have already been planted in the metropolitan area as part of the Plant Prague With Trees project. Your careful treatment of trees also helps Prague stay green and fresh.

chairs and tables in public space

One of the projects that purposefully creates conditions for reviving public spaces is Prague Chairs & Tables.
Iconic black chairs and tables have already been placed in nearly ninety locations in Prague, inviting people to sit down, but also to talk, play board games and network. Sit down on one of them and talk to old-timers, Prague university students or expats. Get to know Prague through the eyes of those who live there.

cycle-depot

If you stay longer in Prague, you may appreciate the services of delivery companies. Then you know that many delivery companies already use one of Prague’s two cycle depots, which are located on both banks of the Vltava River: at Anděl in Smíchov and also at Těšnov near the historic centre. Couriers make deliveries from them on electric cargo bikes, helping to reduce car traffic in the city centre. You can also participate in this form of sustainability support with your customer preference.

environmentally friendly buildings, green roofs

In addition to energy efficiency, responsible water management and a low carbon footprint, green roofs and other areas incorporated into the modern architecture characterize the many environmentally-friendly buildings (e.g. Visionary in Holešovice). You can see them right in the centre of Prague (the multi-purpose building of the DRN building on Národní třída, the green roof of the National Museum of Agriculture) and where the green roof is already almost shaking hands with the surrounding open nature – e.g. on Císařský ostrov.

the incoming tourism concept of the capital city of prague

The objectives of the concept are to take care of the interests of the citizens of Prague, to take care of the public space and to take care of the destination itself. The intersection of these goals is maintaining a high quality of life in the capital city. The concept is elaborated in the project cards of the extensive Implementation Plan and is reflected in all areas of life in Prague: from transport, tourism, culture, aesthetics of public space and housing, through to environmental protection.

The concept and an overview of the project implementation plan can be downloaded here.
