Vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Prague

share

Restaurants that focus exclusively on innovative and high-quality vegetarian and vegan dishes are on the up and up, with more and more tasty vegetarian dishes also appearing on the menus of traditional restaurants.

Maitrea

Vegetarian restaurants are gradually becoming a familiar part of the city’s culinary scene, and appeal to a wide range of customers — from avid vegetarians to curious visitors looking for a new way to delight their taste buds. One thing that makes vegetarian restaurants especially popular is their emphasis on the freshness, quality and origin of their ingredients. They’re also often pleasant and welcoming eateries that promote a healthy lifestyle, an interest in sustainability and a community atmosphere.

Lehká hlava

One of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in Prague and still a favourite venue for locals, even those who don’t stick to vegetarian dishes. The restaurant interior, in the charming Old Town street called Boršov is very unusual, the ceiling glittering with stars – while the building dates back to 1410. Lehká hlava constantly comes up with new imaginative delicacies that change to suit the season.

Maitrea

Two floors full of magical nooks and vegetarian flavours inspired by the heart in symbiosis with the space itself — fountains, an abundance of plants, a fireplace and a still life with a statue of Buddha. The meat-free dishes served up here are designed to appeal to even non-vegetarians. The restaurant has long been rated one of Prague’s top 10 vegetarian and vegan eateries.

Natureza

Close to the church of St Lawrence is a vegetarian restaurant with a magical garden.  Its pleasant ambience makes for a really enjoyable daily menu, with soup and main course. The menu offers vegetarian, vegan, but also gluten-free meals, raw desserts, coffee, wine or beer from the Únětice brewery. This is also the perfect place for holding a wedding reception, lovingly prepared for you with creativity and respect for nature, from the festive menu to the natural decorations.

Restaurant Střecha

This vegan restaurant and café is more than just a place offering tasty and affordable vegan food, coffee from a cooperative social fair-trade roastery, and homemade sodas. It’s a social cooperative that employs people without homes, who have served a prison sentence or who are on probation, in order to give them a chance to lead a normal life again.

Sandokan vegan bistro

The name Sandokan reminds the older generation of a charismatic pirate from a TV series of the same name. Lovers of vegan cuisine will instantly think of the Vinohrady bistro, which prepares high-quality and fresh dishes, including gluten-free options. The self-service buffet offers a selection of vegetable salads and hot dishes, in any quantity.

Country life

We really must not forget to mention this family business, the first to bring organic food to the Czech market. In 1991 in the very heart of Prague, in Melantrichova street, they opened the first refreshment and health food store, their assortment now expanded to include natural cosmetics and products from their own organic farm and organic bakery. There are hot and cold vegan dishes, salads, sandwiches, burgers and much more for you to eat in a pleasing setting, whether indoors or at an outdoor table. If you want to take your food with you, bring your own container. Country Life prefers to sell without packaging, though they do have disposable bowls and boxes, which are exclusively eco-friendly.

Dhaba Beas

This bustling Indian-cuisine dining room has several branches in Prague. An ideal choice when you are looking for fast and cheap food, even to take out. As for the daily menu, you can take as much as you want and they will weigh it at the checkout. This makes for healthy and tasty variations, with most dishes not being too spicy.

Loving Hut

Another vegan restaurant chain, Loving Hut has quite a few restaurants, particularly in shopping centres. These conveniently accessible self-service bistros offer a wide choice of fresh and delicious dishes without gene-engineered ingredients.

Spojka Karlín

Last but not least, we’ll recommend a restaurant that connects. It brings together at one table all those who want to eat well. Without prejudice and regardless of whether it is a vegan, vegetarian or meat lover. It is the first flexitarian restaurant in our country. Flexitarians have a predominantly plant-based diet, but do indulge in meat now and again, while paying close attention to its origin, mindful of health risks and environmental concerns. The à la carte menu of this upcoming Karlín restaurant includes vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and meat dishes, all in studiously guarded organic quality.
