Zámek Loučeň

The Loučeň Chateau, accessible year-round, is a romantic Baroque monument surrounded by a large English park. The latter is home to a feature unique in Europe - a set of 12 labyrinths and mazes. The compound, designed by František Maxmilián Kaňka, belonged to the noble family of Thurn-Taxis until the end of the Second World War. The story of the Thurn-Taxis family from 1870 to 1920 is the main theme of the tours. However, the only part of the chateau that has remained unchanged since the Thurn-Taxis era is the library. The guides wear costumes, meaning that during the tour visitors will meet the butler, the maid, the prince, the princess or one of their children. The tours offer a glimpse into the chateau bedrooms, bathrooms and concert hall. Bedřich Smetana visited the castle as a distinguished guest of the Thurn-Taxis family. The preserved piano wing in the Music Salon has thus seen concerts by one of the most important Czech composers ever.
