The vineyard of the Royal Collegiate Chapter of St. Peter and Paul is not the only one in Vyšehrad, but it is the largest. It lies behind the walls of the garden of the New Deanery, the current seat of the chapter. It was founded 950 years ago by Vratislaus, the first King of Bohemia, who made the chapter directly subordinate to the papal curia. As an important ecclesiastical institution, it owned extensive tracts of land, including vineyards. The production vineyard planted in 2002 pays homage to this glorious tradition. The vineyard in the garden of the deanery was designed by the provost Antonín Doležal and planted out by vineyard expert Antonín Tureček. In 2012, care of the vineyard was taken over by Stanislav Rudolfský of Vinné sklepy Kutná Hora, and his son now tends some 130 vines using organic methods. He produces around 300 bottles of Vyšehrad cuvée a year from the Müller Thurgau, Modrý Portugal and Pinot Noir varieties. The wine is not generally available, and is used solely for representational purposes.
