Vinice NKP Vyšehrad

Vines have been cultivated on the sunny slopes of Vyšehrad since mediaeval times. After the Thirty Years' War, the vineyards began to disappear as the Baroque fortifications were built. They returned in 2006, when three small vineyards were established to accompany the scenic route around the Burgraviate. Covering a total area of 540 m2, the vineyards are designed as roof gardens on a shallow slope above the Gothic cellar and the modern extension of the Burgraviate. The varieties grown here are Marlen (red), Festival and Bianca (white), which are “head-trained” on acacia stakes and are tended by hand so as to protect the environment. The vineyard is sown with grass to slow the flow of rainwater, thus helping to protect the low-lying Vyšehrad rock from the effects of water erosion. The vineyard is cared for and the vines processed by a winemaker who commutes to Vyšehrad from Mělník. The wine is bottled and used to promote the Vyšehrad National Cultural Heritage Site. In 2023, it produced a total of 38 litres of dry red wine and 150 litres of white.
