The Václav Havel Library functions as a centre for the documentation and research of modern Czech history with an emphasis on promoting the ideas and works of Václav Havel: playwright, fighter against totalitarianism, leader of the 1989 Velvet Revolution, Czechoslovak and Czech president, and a symbol of vigilance against despotism.

The archive is open to researchers every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The building’s ground-floor spaces is dedicated to an exhibition on Václav Havel and used for VHL club events — all kinds of seminars, readings, exhibitions, lectures, concerts and theatre performances.
The Library’s offices, archive, constantly expanding library, and reading room are located on the first floor.
