Muzeum Českých drah v Lužné u Rakovníka

The museum in Lužná u Rakovníka is the largest railway museum in the Czech Republic. The exposition is located on the premises of the former heating plant of the Buštěhradské dráhy railway company in Lužná - Lišany. Today, the museum comprises the original 1871 heating plant, a depot with a rotunda, turntable, coal handling equipment and assembly halls, completed in 1924, to which a large repair shop for motor locomotives was added in the 1980s. It houses the largest collection of steam locomotives in our country. Moreover, you can view historic diesel and electric locomotives, period passenger and freight cars, plus other exhibits essential to railway operation. Come and have a look and enjoy a good dose of nostalgia.

tours

Within the exhibition you can try interactive exhibits, like changing a signal, opening a level crossing or giving a train the signal to depart. The narrow-gauge train will be happy to take you on a ride on the newly extended circuit, with a steam locomotive at the front on selected weekends. Of course, there is a large model railway track, an exhibition of safety equipment, a children’s playground and stylish bistro in a historic dining car.  The museum’s repair hall has been focusing on steam locomotive repairs for several years, and is now one of the last to do so. Admission is possible with a guide on weekends and holidays. From spring to autumn, the Lužná Museum organises steam locomotive rides and other interesting special events.
