Known as the Borromean Sisters’ Hospital, this institution is a jewel set within gardens below Petřín Hill. Don't be misled by its appearance — the hospital’s walls have witnessed much throughout their history, and both the façade and interiors are awaiting renovation. The sisters regard the site — together with the genius loci of the entire complex of buildings, terraced gardens, and the adjoining Borromean convent houses — as the Valley of Mercy. Here, professionalism is united with humanity, while the spiritual dimension of every person is never forgotten. The Hospital of the Sisters of Mercy of St St Charles Borromeo is the only church-run hospital in the Czech Republic providing acute care. Patients receive treatment both in inpatient wards and specialist outpatient clinics. The sisters fulfil their mission there alongside civilian medical staff.
