Simon and Jude much safer. Although the church is no longer consecrated and is now used mainly as a concert hall, it still has a truly fascinating history. As early as the mid-14th century, a hospital was established on this site, together with a chapel dedicated to Saints Simon and Jude Thaddeus. However, the chapel was was later rebuilt into a small church, which passed to the German Lutherans, while Václav Vilém of Roupov built a sanctuary for the Czech Brethren in its immediate vicinity. After the Battle of White Mountain, the church was confiscated and Emperor Ferdinand II granted it to the Brothers Hospitallers of Saint John of God. The brothers immediately began building a convent, expanding the hospital, and modifying the church, including the addition of a bell tower. The church acquired its High Baroque look after 1720, when the sculptural décor was enhanced by Ferdinand Maxmilián Brokoff. The single-nave building boasts an impressive lavishly ornate Baroque interior, with an especially stunning illusionist painting of the presbytery and main altar by Josef Hager. It is also worth noting the painting of St. Augustine from the workshop of Václav Vavřinec Reiner, placed on the main altar. The church still has its original organ, played by eminent composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn.
