Come to Prague to celebrate the holidays of life reawakened — the life of nature and the life that Christ entered into through his resurrection according to Christian tradition. This year, the Easter holidays fall between 3 and 6 April. There is a wealth of spiritual and cultural activities in store, and the doors will be open not only on the historical tourist tram, but also to most museums, galleries and monuments on Easter Monday.

Easter Religious Services

Easter is the culmination of the religious year for Christians. Liturgical ceremonies on the individual days of the Holy Week, starting with Palm Sunday and ending with the Resurrection of the Lord, remind believers of the key events in the Easter story. After the pain of Good Friday and sorrow of Holy Saturday, the only day in the year in which no services are celebrated, the holy mass on Easter Sunday brings forth the joyful spirit of new hope. It recalls the most important event in the Christian faith, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Easter services in English, Spanish, and Italian are held at the Church of Our Lady Victorious (Church of the Infant Jesus).

Easter in Prague with Prague City Tourism

Vintage tram No. 42, which passes through the most beautiful locations of the Prague conservation area, will definitely be heading out during the holidays. You can take a ride in one of the many historic cars, from the oldest models dating back to the early 20th century through to versions from the 1960s. The ticket also serves as a discount voucher for another experience featuring amazing views of Prague.

As the daylight hours lengthen, the visiting times at Prague’s towers will be extended starting from 1 April, with the New Mill Water Tower and its observation hall joining the others following the winter break.

However, if you prefer to explore the metropolis on foot, why not go on one of our many private tours with a guide?

Easter Operations

Good Friday and Easter Monday are marked not only by traditions but also by public holidays. On Good Friday, shops usually operate as normal, just like at the weekend. On Easter Monday, however, there is a legal sales ban for supermarkets and large shops over 200 square metres.
Pharmacies, petrol stations and smaller shops are not affected by the closure.

Most historical sites, galleries and museums remain open during the holidays, but we recommend checking their websites just to make sure. For example, the heritage sites in Prague’s Jewish Town will be closed on 2, 3, 8 and 9 April, and the National Gallery will be closed on Easter Monday.

The operation of public transport during the Easter holidays is governed by the timetables for Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. (On Friday 3 April according to Saturday timetables, on Monday 6 April according to Sunday timetables).
