Matějská pouť, the Czech Republic’s most favourite & oldest funfair opens door at Prague Exhibition Grounds. Originally, it used to be organized at the St Matthew Church in Hanspaulka in as early as the 16th century, having been the first spring fair in Prague. It would later move to different locations to finally settle in Holešovice in 1963. The annual spring event turns Holešovice Exhibition Grounds into an amusement park featuring traditional and contemporary attractions for both kids and adults. Over a hudred rides are available, such as carousels, rotating and swing rides, roller coasters, swings, sky flyer rides, bumper cars, haunted houses and more. Food and souvenir gift stalls offer wide range of graditional heart-shaped decorated gingerbreads, cotton candy, lollies, jelly candy and other confectionery. The Matějská Funfair tradition has been archived in the National Library since 1595. It became famous as the first spring event in Prague celebrating the feast of St Matthew which originally was held on February 24.
