Come to the American Center to see Livin’ in the Hood – New York Street Life 1990 & 2013/2014 photo exhibition. It is based on the photo book of the same name published in October 2024 and presents the work of two German photographers – Jörg Rubbert and Jürgen Bürgin. Their photos provide profound insight into the reality of life in the city that transformed itself from 1990 to 2014. The images give an impression of what New York felt like during those years and highlight the social and political changes over two decades. For Jörg Rubbert, the city as a developing organism is one of his preferred photographic subjects. He represents a humanistic direction in photography and has published several illustrated books about Paris, New York, and the American South. For his part, Jürgen Bürgin travelled regularly to various large cities in Asia, America, and Europe. His photographs have been shown in numerous exhibitions worldwide. His images are influenced by his decades of work in the film industry.

You can visit the exhibition during a public event or through an appointment.
