Liechtenstein Palace — Kampa

  • free

As part of this year’s Open Day events, visitors will have only one more opportunity to explore the Liechtenstein Palace on Kampa. They will learn about the building’s history, which dates back to the 16th century, as well as its current role as a government representative venue. Guests can look forward to viewing the palace’s interior, which today hosts conferences, formal protocol events, and also serves as accommodation for visiting state delegations. In the past, the palace has welcomed notable guests such as King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan.

The public will have the opportunity to visit the palace from 9 AM to 4 PM in organized groups led by a guide.

The Liechtenstein Palace was built between 1697 and 1698 on a hexagonal floor plan, designed by Italian architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi for the noble Kaiserstein family. Over the centuries, the palace changed hands several times. Among its last aristocratic owners were the Liechtensteins, who held the property from 1831 to 1864. It was then purchased by miller František Odkolek, who remodeled it into its current form. Between 1979 and 1991, the palace underwent further renovations under the direction of architect Kamil Fuchs to serve the needs of the Office of the Government.
