The Story of the Astronomical Clock

Experience magical Prague, full of mystery, in a theatre where the age-old magic of puppetry comes alive and reality mingles with fantasy and legend. This original mechanical puppet show unites two of Prague’s unique treasures: the Prague Astronomical Clock and the legendary Říše loutek Puppet Theatre.

Directed by Janek Jirků, the production tells the story of Prague’s Astronomical Clock, its creators, and the characters that have accompanied it for centuries. The suspenseful plot is lightened by Kašpárek, a traditional Czech comic puppet character who joins Master Hanuš in his workshop and draws audiences of all ages into the world of Old Prague legends with his characteristic humour. The rich cinematic and operatic score by composer Jiří Hradil replaces spoken dialogue, completely eliminating the language barrier.
