Unseen Makers Day 4 – Expressionist energy and masterpieces for daily life

share

Dedicate your last day to Ich bin ein Expressionist and Masterpieces for daily life. Start at the Museum Gunzenhauser, whose collection is particularly strong in German Expressionism and New Objectivity, with works by artists linked to the Brücke movement and other pioneers of modern art. Continue to other venues of Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz to see how industrialists and collectors brought radical art into this former industrial city – and how Chemnitz 2025 as European Capital of Culture is shining a new light on these stories.

Chemnitz Townhall

In the afternoon, return to the theme of “masterpieces for daily life” by visiting sites of industrial culture in and around the city: restored factories, tram depots or the Industrial Museum’s halls of machines and everyday design classics. Over four days, you will have moved from medieval clocks and Gothic towers in Prague to concrete modernism and expressionist canvases in Chemnitz – a compact journey through a thousand years of making on both sides of the Bohemian–Saxon border.
