This new sightseeing route in Prague offers an introduction to two important symbols of the city that not only reflect its rich history, but also represent a combination of architectural mastery with unique technical innovations of the early 19th century. The tour is a unique opportunity to experience a ride in a historical elevator called a paternoster, to learn about historical and contemporary facts relating to this type of elevator and to visit selected interiors of the historic Prague City Hall that are not normally open to the public.

The guided tour has several stops. It will introduce the history and present of Mariánské Square and the exterior architecture of the Prague City Hall. Inside, participants will walk up a representative staircase dating to 1911, lined among other things with marble, peek into the large (assembly) hall and, after the safety briefing, take a ride in the paternoster elevator. With the help of authentic photographs, they will see what the inside the paternoster machine room looks like, get acquainted with the principle of driving the cabins and learn that the elevator cabins do not tip over.

The tours start at the entrance of the Clementinum Astronomical Tower (National library).

Increased security is observed  on the 45-minute Prague City Hall – Paternoster Tour, and since the building still functions as the current seat of the representatives of the capital city of Prague, tours are organised only in small numbers of participants according to a specific schedule.

Due to increased safety requirements, the tour is open only to persons over 18 years of age, in good physical condition and not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
