Rony Plesl is best known to both experts and the general public for his own work. He is intrinsically connected to glass and its materiality on several levels. As one of the most prominent Czech designers, he is the creator of the iconic beer glasses from which crowds of beer drinkers enjoy their beer every day. As a longtime professor at Prague’s UMPRUM, he shaped an entire generation of Czech glass artists. And as an artist with an unmistakable style, he has presented new forms of glass sculpture in recent years alone — from Kampa to London to Venice. Few people, however, are aware of his work as a collector. Yet it is precisely this activity that is closely intertwined with his artistic thinking. In his own work, he explores glass time and again, navigating the tension it brings — between stubbornness and unpredictability, between strength and fragility, between the ability to deform the image of the world and perfect transparency. As a collector, he seeks out similar qualities—perhaps unconsciously. As part of the exhibition, works from Rony’s collection therefore naturally intertwine with his own creations. Rony Plesl is one of the most renowned Czech glass artists and designers. He regularly exhibits both in the Czech Republic and abroad; for example, he presented his work in Venice in 2022 during the Biennale and represented the Czech Republic at the World Expo in Osaka in 2025. His works are included in both domestic and international private collections. Since 2008, he has headed the glass studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague — the very institution where he himself studied — and continues to influence future generations of artists.
