The French Film Festival, organized by the French Institute in Prague, is the largest French cultural event in the Czech Republic and also the most significant festival of its kind in Central Europe. Every year, it presents Czech audiences with the widest possible selection of contemporary French film productions. The rich program and attendance, which regularly reaches 20,000 viewers, make this film festival one of the most important film events in the Czech Republic. The 28th edition will take place in November 2025. This year’s festival visuals pay tribute to legendary actor Alain Delon, who would have turned 90 this year. With his charismatic personality and exceptional performances, the actor shaped European cinema in the second half of the 20th century, becoming a symbol of French cinema and influencing entire generations of viewers and filmmakers. The festival will commemorate Alain Delon’s work with three films from his rich filmography, including crime thrillers, dramas, and adventure films. As part of this tribute, the festival will screen Henri Verneuil’s classic detective film Mélodie en sous-sol (1963), which is a showcase for Alain Delon’s acting skills alongside Jean Gabin, René Clément’s cult thriller The Love Cage (1964) with Jane Fonda, and Christian-Jacquot’s historical adventure film The Black Tulip (1964), in which Delon played a double role. All films are presented in their original language with Czech subtitles or Czech dubbing. Every year, the French Film Festival welcomes famous personalities who come to present their film work. In the past, Prague has been visited by director Jacques Doillon, actress Catherine Frot, director Martin Provost, directors Nicole Garcia, Anne Fontaine, Lou Jeunet, directors François Ozon, Benoît Jacquot, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Claude Miller, Claude Zidi, actress Judith Godrèche, and actors Romain Duris and Tahar Rahim.
